Hooks- What kind of hooks can I use?

When just starting out I would recommend a locker hook. (You will need a lifeline -dress shoelace or yarn) You can find them in the latch rug aisle at the craft store for just a couple of dollars. Down fall no thumb rest and come only in 2 sizes (about G and 2mm)

Another possible hook is to modifiy one you alreadly own wood or metal. Drill a hole into the end of your hook. I drill straight down into the hook, but some like to taper the end and drill into the side.

I also have a Denise set. Which I had to modify because I found the cable was to stiff to work with. So I clipped the smallest cable that came with my set and pushed a dress shoe lace into the hallow end. Works great.

  1. Ronda, I'm so impressed with how much you've done with knooking! I'm looking forward to your KnAL.

I want to pass along a "Stylish Blogger" award to you! I don't have a huge amount of traffic on my blog, but maybe we'll get a few new converts to knooking! You can see my post here:

  2. Hi there! you have great info on your blog and I have referred my large yahoo group to your link. People are looking for the new KNOOK hook that Leisure Arts is selling exclusively at Walmart. Some won't step foot in a Walmart, others cannot find one on the shelves in theirs. I found several options that will work on eBay but I have a question. I would like to use this method for larger blankets. I have lots of really long custom made hooks from Laughing Horse and MoEZ. I believe they can be modified with a hole in the end or through the end and sanded to a bit of a taper. MoEZ hooks have a rubber grip I will have to destroy on the end though. I bought a wood set like Denise's I plan to use the extension for the larger afghan blankets so the buttons have to come off. I was going to shove a shoe lace into the end like you did to Denise's.. I only paid 99 cents for the 12 pc bamboo set with 8.00 shipping.. I am anxious to try this out.

  4. I received the Leisure Arts bamboo set, and i think they are wonderful. I am planning to buy a set of bamboo ones and simply drill a hole in the end of each. Just another suggestion.

  7. What about a crochet hook set that is for tunisian crochet that has a flexible part between like circular knitting needles have? If I needed to, I could cut off 1 end, or just leave it there so that the stitches would not fall off.
