Sock Formula

Light Weight Yarn and Size B Knooking hook.


CO/INC to....
Chain 8 pull up knit stitch on each side of the chain = 16 stitches 8 on each side of the chain 8. Increase would look like this
k,inc,k,k,k,k,k,k,inc,k  on one side k,inc,k,k,k,k,k,k,inc,k on the other.
You will Inc by 4 stitches every other row. I use a lifted increase.

Infant Inc to 24
Toddler Inc to 32
Child Inc to 40
Women Inc to 48
Men Inc to 56

Foot Length....

Knit until you have the length you need

Infant 3 1/2 inches
Toddler 5 inches
Child 6.5 inches
Women 8-11 inches
Men 10-12 inches

Short Rows

divide stiches 1/2 on a stitch holder. Other 1/2 work short rows
Short Rows....

1.) Slip Stitch (SS) 1st stitch Knit to last, but dont knit last put on holder, turn
2.) SS 1st stitch, purl to last, but dont purl last put on holder, turn
Continue steps 1 and 2 until you have 1/2 of what you started with (e.g. Infant: Inc to 24 your short rows side is 12 stitches so 1/2 of 12 is 6)

Add stitches back on....

1.) SS 1st stitch, knit to 2nd to last, knit last stitch and 1 held stitch together, pull up 1 increase, turn.
2.) SS 1st stitch, purl to 2nd to last, purl last stitch and 1 held stitch together, purl up 1 increase, turn.

Continue steps 1 and 2 until you have same number of stitches you had before short rowing and/or what is on your other stitch holder.

Knit Around

Cuff

Knit 1, Purl 1 (ribbing) or ribbing of choice for as long as you want your cuff.

Bind Off. Remember everyone is different this is just a formula.

Hugs and Kisses Hybrid Bag

So while on break I thought would design a simple drawstring bag that has both knooking and crochet incorporated in it. I had 4 testers, 2 got back with me on the results of pattern, both of which was good. I am getting ready to go back to school and want to get this pattern posted, so before the other two give me their feedback I am putting it up. If there is any problems let me know. I hope you enjoy this hybrid project. I think the Hugs and Kisses Bag shows just how fun and unique Knooking can be.

Supplies:

5mm knook hook

Small amount of Worst Yarn (A skein or less)

Stitch Markers and/or Row Counter

Crochet Bottom of Bag:

(Ch3 always counts as a Dc stitch.)

Start with a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch3, 11dc in ring, slipstitch into top of 3rd chain =12 stitches.

 Rnd 2: Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd chain as last slipstitch, 2dc in next and each stitch all around, slipstitch into top of 3rd chain = 24 stitches.

Rnd 3: Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd chain as last slipstitch, *1dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch, rep from * to last stitch, 1dc in next stitch, slipstitch into top of 3rd chain = 36 stitches.

Rnd 4: Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd chain as last slipstitch, *1dc in each of next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, rep from * to last 2 stitches, 1dc in each of next 2 stitches, = 48 stitches.  (Transition into knooking (knitting)).  Slipstitch into back loop of 3^rd chain (counts as first knit stitch on next row.)

Knooked (knit):

Pull up one knit stitch from back loop of each crochet stitch all the way around = 48 stitches.

Knook (Knit) in spiral (round) until you have 6 rnds.

Crochet (Twisted Dc’s):

Skip 1^st knit stitch, Ch3 in 2^nd knit stitch (counts as a Dc) then Dc in 1^st knit stitch (DO NOT Bind off stitches keep them live for entire rnd.)  *Skip next knit stitch, Dc in next, then Dc in skipped stitch* .      ** to end of rnd. =48 stitches.

*Knook (knit): 6 rnds., Crochet Twisted Dc’s 1 rnd*.   ** For as many rnds needed to the length you want for your bag. End with 6 rnds of knooking (knitting).

Crochet:

Rnd 1:  Chain 3 in first knit stitch (counts as 1^st Dc), Dc around, (Ok to bind these Dc’s off) slipstitch into top of 3^rd chain. Fasten off and weave ends.

Drawstring:

Where you joined bottom of bag and where 1^st knit stitch happened is where you will attach crochet chain to hide joining. Make your crochet chain as long as you need for length of bag and to be able to weave it in and out of Dc’s at the top of the bag. When your chain is long enough and weaved through Dc’s clip the yarn, BUT leave a long enough tail so that you can slipstitch back down the crochet chain to your starting point at the bottom of the bag.

Fasten off, and weave your ends.

Sorry I haven't been so active

I must apologize for my absence.  I haven't been very active on my blog lately.  It's not that I don't want to, but I have a part time job, I am mother of 3 and wife that has decided to go to college to fulfill my dream of becoming a RN.  I have been very busy at school and next month I finally will be able to apply for the Nursing program.  I will try to pop in as much as I can to answer any questions I see in comments.

Another Knook Hook

So I made my own knook hook that has a pointy end like a knitting needle. And found that it made purling much easier to do and over all knooking quicker. Pictured below.

But I found it to be alot of work to have to wittle the wood.  So I had a bamboo set that I ordered from ebay and did the unthinkable.....but it worked.  I put my hook into a pencil sharpener and sharpened away and got a beautiful point to my hook.  I just sanded it down a little to get rid of any roughness and you have to be careful not to over sharpen the hook off.

Lefted Handed Version Available

With much discussion recently on left and righted handed directions, and I only having right handed directions available.  I sat down and made up a left hand version of "I'd Rather Be Knooking".  All the same information is available in left handed version is in the right handed version.  When you make a purchase of the book please indicate with your payment which version you would like.  I hope this will help out everyone.

Cast on 22

1)      Chain 2 in 4^th chain from hook, Double Crochet Cluster (in next stitch), *chain 2 in next stitch twice, Double Crochet Cluster (in next stitch).*               * * across

2)      Purl across.

3)      *Chain 2 in next 2 stitches, Double Crochet Cluster, Chain 2 in next 2 stitches.*    **across.

4)      Purl across.

5)      Steps  3-4 for length wanted.

6)      Bind off, weave ends.

Sock Knooking Hook

So many want to knook a pair of socks, but it has been hard finding a small enough hook to do that. If your handy then here's a way to make your very own sock knooking hook.

Supplies:

Pony Bead Lacing  2-3 Feet
Hand File
2.75 mm Boye Aluminum Hook (or hook of choice)

File around the end of the hook creating a post so it can accept pony bead tubing.

Slip tubing on to hook.And happily knook a pair of socks. For more sercurity you can glue tubing onto hook to make sure it doesn't slip away.

For all of you having a horrible time learning or doing the knooking purl stitch. Here's another way you can go about knooking both with the knitted and purl stitch. This method WILL NOT work doing increases and decreases or other stitches I have shared on this blog because you are entering the stitch differently.  READY!!!! 

Just in case you didnt see note above: Video is left handed written instructions are right handed.

First: Knit stitch- You will go through your stitch Right to Left just as you have been CATCH instead of yarning over keep your working yarn UNDER your hook and pull through the stitch. Knit stitch complete.

Second: Purl stitch -Ok, working yarn to the Front, go through the stitch Right to Left just like the knit stitch, NOW put you working yarn to the back, Yarn Over and pull through the stitch.

SO EXCITED, HOPE THIS HELP'S ALL OF YOU OUT!!!!!

Video on Easier Purling

So to clarify I am left handed although you would never know it from this blog or my ebook. I have reversed all of the pictures and written instruction into a right handers perspective. Recently I have heard alot of knookers saying they are having a hard time with the purling. So I have made up a video but being left handed and not being able to reverse a video it is shown left handed. I hope all of you right handers get something out of it anyways. Just an idea for anyone with problems with your hands and holding onto the the lifeline, try using some kind of clip instead. If your still having trouble with your purling experiment with different types and sizes of lifelines.

Falling Water Knook Along

So on Ravelry the Knooking group is having a knook along. We are knooking the "Falling Water" scarf by Bonnie Sennott. I really don't have the time or need to make a scarf so I am just doing a washcloth with the repeat. So far turning out pretty good. This pattern uses knit,purl,left and right decreases, and yarn over increases. And just so you know all the participants are doing a great job with their projects.

Hooks- What kind of hooks can I use?

When just starting out I would recommend a locker hook. (You will need a lifeline -dress shoelace or yarn) You can find them in the latch rug aisle at the craft store for just a couple of dollars. Down fall no thumb rest and come only in 2 sizes (about G and 2mm)






Another possible hook is to modifiy one you alreadly own wood or metal. Drill a hole into the end of your hook. I drill straight down into the hook, but some like to taper the end and drill into the side.

I also have a Denise set. Which I had to modify because I found the cable was to stiff to work with. So I clipped the smallest cable that came with my set and pushed a dress shoe lace into the hallow end. Works great.

Co on 22 stitches using Chain Co. Co in bumps on back of chain to give a more finished edge.
Knook

1) Purl
2) Knit
3) Purl

Crochet

4) Ch 2 in 1st stitch=dc, *skip one stitch dc in next. DON NOT BIND OFF,leave loop on hook. Dc in skipped stitch. DO NOT BIND OFF, leave loop on hook.* ** to end, dc in last stitch.

Knook

5-7) Rows 1-3
Continue with rows 4 and rows 1-3 until you have a 5 1/2 inch square. You should have 5 of row 4.
Bind off, tie off, weave ends.

You can put your rose anywhere on your knooked fabric.
Step 1: Knook to one place before where you want rose.
Step 2: Pull hook through (gives you room to work)
Step 3: Chain 10 on next stitch
Step 4: Crochet Rose
Skip 1st chain, *3dc in next ch,slip stitch in next chain* * * continue to end.

Step 5: Roll rose petals to form rose

Step 6: Put your hook through center and somewhere in middle (stops rose from unrolling)
Yo pull working yarn through everything on your hook. Rose made continue knooking.

NOTE: If you want more petals 2 chain=1 petal

1) Cast on 10

3) 2 knits in each knit (20)

9) Inc, Knit 3 (50)
10) Knit around (50)

 Keep increasing until you have the circumference needed using same method above.

 Inc, adding 1 knit around, in increased row.

These are approximate everyone comes in different sizes

Preemie 40 st

Women’s 80 st

Men’s 90 st

Then knit the same # of stitches in each row until you have the height you need.

Preemie height   5 to 5.5"

Newborn height = 5.5 to 6”

Toddler height = 8"

Man height = 11"-11.5" 

5 rows = 1 inch.
Do ribbing for last 5 rows (Knit 1, Purl 1)

Bind off and weave ends.

Knooking Decrease

Decreasing

There are two I am going to show you

1^st K2tog Right slant- Skip your first stitch put the hook in second stitch than put your hook in first (helpful to use your finger’s to pull first stitch onto hook), YO and draw yarn through both stitches.  It’s a little tricky but possible.
Skip 1st stitch

Insert into 2nd then pull 1st stitch onto hook.

YO and draw working yarn through loops.

 Knit2Together Rgith Slant Decrease

2^nd SSK Left slant- Put your hook through two stitches, YO and draw yarn through both

 (SSK) Skip Skip Knit Left Slant Decrease

Knooking Increase

Increasing

There are a few ways to increase. 

 1^st Yarn over (YO) (Mostly used for lace.) Put your yarn over the hook returning yarn to back, knit in next stitch. Leaves a big hole

2^nd   M1 - Pull up a loop in the horizontal strand in between stitches. To do this take the horizontal strand with you hook to the back of strand, twist it, YO and draw yarn through twisted loop. Depending which way you twist your loop will determine a left or right increase
